Pullman WA Information  ~ By Lori Cofer “Your Pullman Real Estate Connection”

Pullman WAI am a big fan of Pullman Washington as you can tell.  Pullman Washington is uniquely situated in the rolling hills of the Palouse. What is the palouse you might ask?  I know lots of my relocating clients coming to Pullman ask this of me quite often.  The  Palouse describes some of the most beautiful and picturesque rolling hills that contain very fertile crop land known for producing wheat and legumes. In fact, each year in the fall we have our annual Lentil Festival.  There is a great deal of additional information on the formation and origin of the term Palouse.  Personally I think that the Canadian Fur Traders French term “pelouse” which means land with short and thick grass describes the natural fields that you find in Pullman.

Washington State UniversityPullman is a town of approximately 27,000 residents.  That number rises significantly when Washington State University is in session.  Students from all over the world come to our great university.  And a large portion of those students are from the west side of our state.  The university provides wonderful things for our great community.  So whether you want to take in a game, or maybe go to a concert or enjoy some art, we always have lots to do. I know I enjoy the benefits of living in a college town.  It certainly keeps you young at heart!

And of course, Pullman is uniquely situated near so many outside activities that are always at your beck and call.  We are uniquely situated in between many wonderful areas of the country.  Head north and you are only about and hour and half from Spokane Washington and another 30 minutes and your are in wonderful Couer D’alene.  So whether shopping is your cup of tea or getting out on the lakes, we got you covered. Skiing and snowboarding are popular in the winter months.  Head south about 45 minutes and you are in Lewiston Idaho, the mouth of the Grand Canyon.

We experience all 4 distinct seasons in Pullman.  Relocating clients also ask me quite often about our weather.  Winters do tend to mean snow…maybe not all the time and certainly this year was mild :) but we do begin to see snow fall in late October to Mid November.  Springs are be a wonderful mix of bright sunny days or days when winter seems to try to creep back in with flurries often even into early Spring.  Summer is wonderful here in Pullman.  It usually starts to warm up around Mother’s Day and that is traditionally when annuals and planted.  Lovely temperatures to the 80 to 90 in the days and cooler 50 degree evenings.  Fall brings lovely colors to the trees and signals cooler shorter days.

Pullman is divided into four hills or neighborhoods..  The dividing streets are Main Street and Grand Avenue.  They divide our town into  4 areas, Pioneer Hill, Sunnyside Hill, Military Hill and College Hill.  The following Map I made might be helpful.

We have three elementary schools, Franklin Elementary, Jefferson Elementary and Sunnyside Elementary.  We have one middle school, Lincoln Middle School, and one high school, Pullman High.  This is one of our treasures in Pullman.  So if you have school age children, you will appreciate our great schools!

Here is a most helpful link for additional information on Pullman I would love to show you my hometown!

Pullman Real Estate ~ Helping Find a Home For A Hero

July 23, 2009 at 2:52 pm (Buyer's tips, Pullman, Relocation) (, , , , , )

Lori Cofer, REALTOR ~ “Your Pullman WA Real Estate Connection”

One of my great joys as a Pullman Washington Realtor has got to be helping someone relocate to our great area and find the perfect house for them to call home.  This summer marked one of those special times that I will truly never forget, and a patriotic one at that!

American FlagI had the great privilege of serving one of our service woman who serves our great country. On Memorial Day weekend we looked at several homes that had been pre-selected by her Mom, a wonderful lady and new found friend. When her daughter arrived I was floored by this special hero.  We began our refined search and by the end of the day we were back writing an offer!  It really marked a special Memorial Day both for me and this very special first time home buyer!  I truly can’t say who was more excited!  My buyer, her Mom or me!!! I really hated to see them leave after the weekend…but then over the 4th of July Weekend we did our walk-through!  keysSomehow it was all so fitting!!!

There are certain times that I believe will be milestones in anyone’s life.  No doubt for my special Marine, owning her first home will be one and she will begin a special new and exciting chapter in her life. And for me, too.  I have not only helped one of our great heroes buy their first home, but settled them into our great Pullman community….and did I mention the best part….I have gained two new wonderful friends!  What more could you ask for?

Pullman WA Real Estate ~ Relocating To Pullman

June 26, 2009 at 2:10 pm (Pullman, Relocation) (, , , , )

The last few days have been such a joy as I have been helping a client in their relocation needs as they move to Pullman.  As a REALTOR, I love helping people find that perfect house that says home.  It is even more enjoyable to help people who come from all over our nation to explore and settle into our part of Washington State.

Pullman Washington is home to Washington State University.  So we have many people from all walks of life relocate to Pullman providing a wonderful rich and diverse community.  I personally find it so rewarding to help someone from miles away come to our community and show them what our great community is all about.

We are very fortunate in Pullman. We are surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of the Palouse.  So if you love outdoor activities – whether it be biking, hiking, fishing, skiing – you will love our beautiful corner of the Pacific Northwest.  We also enjoy so many wonderful benefits of hosting Washington State University.  Being a college town there is always lots of activity.  So grab your Coug gear and head off to a game!  Hope to see you there!!!  GO COUGS!

Go Green ~ Arbor Day in Pullman WA

April 4, 2009 at 3:33 am (Pullman) (, , )

By Lori Cofer, REALTOR ~ “Your Pullman Real EstateMoscow ID Arboretum Connection”

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 10th.  Pullman Washington  will celebrate with the rest of the country by encouraging all Pullman residents to plant a tree.  From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM you can come to the Pine Street Plaza downtown Pullman for a free seedling.

Arbor Day has its roots in Nebraska where J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside to plant trees.  The first Arbor Day in Nebraska in 1872 was celebrated with over a million trees planted in Nebraska!

Trees are wonderful for our environment and enrich our daily lives as they clean the air we breathe, conserve soil and water, and moderate our temperatures.  They are also wonders to behold! The welcoming buds of Spring on a deciduous tree are quickly followed by the beauty of a blanket of green leaves only to put on a glorious show of color in the fall.  And evergreens proudly display their foliage all year long.

They are also wonderful opportunities to grow memories too.  I remember planting three trees when I was very young one day with my mother and my father.  They have now passed off the scene, but when I drive by our old home and see those three trees growing so proudly, it brings back a wonderful memory in my life that brings a smile to my face :)

Pullman WA — WSU Spring Break

March 11, 2009 at 10:23 pm (Pullman, Pullman Schools) (, , , )

Spring Break For Washington State University- Pullman WA

By Lori Cofer REALTOR – “Your Pullman Real Estate Connection”

Snow Pullman WA

Spring is around the corner, but the weather sure feels far from Spring for us today in Pullman Washington.  On Monday the 9th we had quite the storm!  Approximately 6 inches of snow fell followed by a plunge in the temperatures.  It got pretty cold last night.  I woke up to 6 degrees!  BRRR….It is still only 24 degrees and it is 1:00.

Ivy and Ice Pullman WAAs I looked out my kitchen window this morning I saw a robin on a  vine all surrounded with snow.  It was a beautiful sight and somehow so fitting of our straddle between Winter and Spring.  I tried to take a picture, but the little robin saw me and took flight.

So you are probably wondering, what does this all have to do with Spring?  Well, Washington State University Feet on water pullman waSpring Break begins on March 16th through the 20th!  And  kind of fitting this year with March 20th being the official beginning of Spring!  All the students are madly getting those final assignments done and get packed for Spring Break!  Spring Break is a time for the students to head off to tropical destinations or head home for some well earned down time with family and friends.  My family has a student based salon in the heart of WSU and they have been packed with students getting those last minute highlights, cuts and tans.  I know of a few students who are heading to warm destinations…and Mexico seems to be one of the favorites.  Oh, how I envy them!

For the rest of us “locals” in Pullman, we are just hoping the snow will melt and we can enjoy some spring time activities, whether some early gardening, a nice walk outside or maybe a little get away.  I know I am looking forward to a day of shopping and my husband is looking forward to some fishing.   Let’s just hope the weather channel is right and we enjoy some beautiful fifty degree days. It will seem like the tropics compared to last night!  So please, THINK SPRING!  THINK WARM!

Pullman WA Parks ~ Part Three: Reaney Park

February 12, 2009 at 12:09 am (Pullman) (, , , )

Pullman WA Parks ~ Part Three:  Reaney Park

By Lori Cofer “Your Pullman Real Estate Connection”

Reaney Park Pullman WA

Reaney Park is located in downtown Pullman.  It is one of Pullman’s oldest parks and was established in 1914.  The mature trees that grace this wonderful gathering place were planted in 1915.

Reaney Park is also the home of our outdoor swimming pool.  It also has an extensive play area for children.

Photo Of Reaney Park Courtesy of City of Pullman

Lentil Pullman WA

Reaney Park is host to the Reaney Park Concert Series on Summer evenings.  What a great way to enjoy a warm summer evening!

Reaney Park is also home to our National Lentil Festival which takes place in the Fall, usually the weekend after our students come back for Fall Semester at Washington State University (WSU).  Friday night kicks off the festivities with our giant pot of Lentil Chili and booths set up with a wide range of activities and vendors in downtown Pullman.

The highlight of Saturday for the children has to be the Lentil Parade which, fortunate for us at Beasley Realty, comes right in front of our office. I love watching the Parade and watching the little ones taking it all in. The parade ends at Reaney Park where again we have vendors and booths that provide a good time for all.  Seeing friends, family and neighbors at Reaney Park is part of what makes Pullman such a special place to live.

Reaney Park is located at 690 Reaney Way, Pullman WA
